About Carbon Neutral Initiatives
Carbon neutrality means “balancing greenhouse gas emissions and absorption.
In October 2020, Japan declared to the world that it would aim to be carbon neutral by 2050, and in December of the same year it formulated the “Green Growth Strategy for Carbon Neutrality in 2050.
Including Japan, 121 countries and the EU have joined the alliance of countries that have declared themselves carbon neutral by 2050.
Specifically, greenhouse gas emissions are divided into three categories, “Scope 1 (direct emissions),” “Scope 2 (indirect emissions),” and “Scope 3 (other emissions),” depending on how they are emitted and by whom, and the sum of these three categories is considered the “total emissions in the supply chain. The total of these three categories is considered to be the “total emissions of the entire supply chain,” and each of these categories must be reduced in terms of greenhouse gas emissions.
